I have heard that if you want to be a model, agencies

In 1923, a young actor turned model created the first training
company of its kind. The “Powers Girl” was known as
the epitome of poise, posture, sophistication and social grace.
Over two million men and women of all ages are Powers graduates,
including legends like Lauren Bacall, Lucille Ball, Henry Fonda,
Ava Gardner, Grace Kelly, Montgomery Clift, Jacqueline Kennedy
Onassis, Diana Ross and Raquel Welch.
Recent JRP graduates have appeared in numerous commercial campaigns,
including McDonald’s, Levi’s, Pepsi, Chevrolet, Revlon,
Home Depot and hundreds of others.
Our students have also won roles in TV series such as Las Vegas,
Even Stevens, Bernie Mac, All My Children, Days of Our Lives,
Hope and Faith, Charmed and many, many others. JRP alumni have
made their mark in the movies in such films as The Cat In The
Hat, A.I., The Hot Chick, From Justin To Kelly, Win A Date WIth
Tad Hamilton and many more.
For three quarters of a century our focus has remained on developing
individual potential so our students reach their highest goals
in modeling, acting, and LIFE!

Who
is John Robert Powers? |
| John
Robert Powers was an actor in New York City in the early 1900s.
One day he overheard an associate say he needed a group of
attractive people to pose for magazine advertisements. That’s
when Mr. Powers’ exceptional entrepreneurial skills
took over: he rounded up acting friends and trained them for
the advertisements. From that informal beginning Powers went
on to found the nation’s first modeling agency in 1923,
and the modern modeling industry was born. |

|
Are
you a school? |
| Yes,
and we are extremely proud of our record. For over 75 years,
we’ve helped our students earn and maintain a competitive
edge over their rivals in the entertainment industry. Famous
Hollywood stars still work with acting coaches because the
best-prepared candidates are the most successful-like JRP
graduates Suzanne Somers and Raquel Welch. |

|
Does
training make a difference? |
| All
the difference in the world. The entertainment industry is
fast-paced and constantly changing, and agents and directors
need faces and talent now. These busy professionals vastly
prefer a well-prepared candidate to one who lacks polish,
experience or training. |
| |

|
Will
this interfere with school? |
No.
We believe that a solid academic foundation should be a
young person’s first priority. JRP’s policy
is to work only with those families who strive for academic
excellence. Most states require an Entertainer’s Work
Permit that must be signed by the child’s school principal
and sent to the Department of Labor.
Children
will not be pulled out of school for our classes or for
auditions with agents and casting directors. Even agents
will book most auditions for jobs between the hours of 3:00pm
and 7:00pm. |
| |
back

|
What
time commitment is expected if JRP agrees to work with me? |
| Students
commit one day per week to development. Auditions or other
opportunities with agents, casting directors or other industry
professionals can occur, but usually just a few times a month. |
| |
back

|
Does
JRP accept everyone? |
| No. We are looking for people
with a high level of interest and dependability. When our
students meet top industry professionals their conduct is
a direct reflection of our training. Our relationships with
the best agencies and casting directors are excellent because
we are known for presenting only the most talented, enthusiastic
and professional candidates. |

I
have heard that if you want to be a model, agencies will pay
everything for you to start. Is this true? |
In
any career, training and marketing are an up-front investment
of time and money. The most successful models and talent will
tell you that the learning process never ends. In today’s
fast-paced environment, very few agencies in the world will
front costs necessary to begin a model’s career-there
ARE “discoveries”, but like lottery winners, they
are rare. The vast majority of professionals have to work
for their success.
At John Robert Powers, we give you the training, guidance
and confidence to help you attain your goals in the entertainment
industry. |

The First in the World; The Best in the World
A short history on the John Robert Powers School
System
Our
Founder, John Robert Powers. Author of 3 books on modeling
and personal growth
JOHN
ROBERT POWERS founded the modern day billion dollar modeling,
talent, and corporate training industry. From his many writings
and published books Mr. Powers created the curriculum that
is the core of the personality development, modeling and
other course offered at the worldwide network of John Robert
Powers Schools.
Mr. Powers believed that there is no such thing as an unattractive
person, just some people who do not know how to make the
most of themselves. He dedicated his life to helping people
to develop and take good advantage of their personalities.
Naturalness was his gospel. He encouraged his female students,
"don't make up, make down." Our schools still
believe and teach this philosophy. Be yourself. Be natural.
That is what our courses are all about.
It was during the 1920's that Mr. Powers came to New York
City with the hopes of becoming an actor. His business and
entrepreneurial skills led him elsewhere. He overheard an
associate say he wanted a group of attractive people to
pose for magazine advertisements. Powers rounded up acting
friends and trained them for these advertisements. The modern
modeling industry was born. He founded the first modeling
agency in 1923. Around the world the JOHN ROBERT POWERS
SCHOOL SYSTEM celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2003.
Fame
and fortune have come to many personalities who were
trained in the methods originated by Mr. Powers. First
Lady JACKIE KENNEDY, RAQUEL WELCH AND DIANA ROSS attended
Powers' schools. PRINCESS GRACE OF MONACO was a Powers
Model. Jennifer Jones, Ava Gardner, Barbara Stanwyck,
Lucille Ball, Lee Remick, Ann Margaret, Henry Fonda, Tyrone
Power were also Powers Models with the original John
Robert Powers Agency in New York City from the 1920's
through the 1940's.
The famous people of tomorrow are attending our schools
today.
We hope you will take advantage of a Powers course for a
better, happier, and more successful life.

Mr. Ron Patterson
John Robert Powers
Dear
Mr. Patterson:
I wanted to write this letter to express my sincere thanks
to Marcia Mitas and John Velthuis of John Robert Powers,
Colorado Springs. My daughter Tayanna began classes at JRP
in December 2001. She was a very shy, quiet 6 year old,
but enjoyed the classes. She auditioned for IMTA and was
selected in March to attend. The specific classes for IMTA
began shortly thereafter.
Marcia
was her coach for the IMTA classes with John coaching her
specifically on character work. The changes in Tayanna during
these classes were amazing! Within a very short amount of
time, Tayanna became less shy and more confident both in
her acting and in day-to-day life. I almost entirely attribute
this to Marcia and John. They provided her with a caring,
supportive and safe environment that she excelled in. Beyond
the environment, the specific coaching that they did was
not just directed towards acting and modeling, but towards
life itself.
When
we went to IMTA last month, Tayanna knew that she was prepared.
Marcia and John had told her what to expect, worked with
her on her commercials and monologue and transformed her
into a very confident little girl. Tayanna received 4 honorable
mentions at IMTA and was offered an exclusive contract with
a manager in Los Angeles. None of these things could have
been possible without Marcia and John.
I would
highly recommend John Robert Powers to anyone that was interested
and more specifically, Marcia and John in Colorado Springs.
They have become friends and earned our trust and gratitude.
Sincerely,
Joseph M. Todd
Colorado Springs, CO
I
would love to be first to let you know that your student,
Jason Quack, who had caught my eye at JOHN ROBERT POWERS
Beverly Hills... just booked a COKE commercial. It's Jason's
first booking and he is thrilled. I think Jason has a lot
of potential and this will be his first booking of many.
Congratulations!
Joy Di Palma, Real Life Management
“John
Robert Powers rocks with talent! I come to scout knowing
I am going to find fresh faces who are prepared for Hollywood
– knowing the biz as well as how to audition. I
rely on the JRP talent pool for pilot season. They book
the jobs!”

John
Robert Powers helped create the magic of Disney on Wednesday,
December 15, 2004, hosting the DVD release party of the
"Princess Diaries 2" at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
The slumber party themed event transformed guests into
royalty for the night, as they celebrated with the stars
of the film.
Guests
attended the event in their pajamas and were given tiaras
and princess rings when greeted at the door. Celebrities
such as Melinda Clarke, Lisa Rinna, Kimberly Williams-Paisley,
Beverly Peele, Amy Yasbeck, Sela Ward, Tia and Tamara
Mowry, Vanessa Bryant, John Robert Powers' CEO and President
Ron Patterson, and the film's star Callum Blue and director
Gary Marshall all gathered on the pink carpet in support
of St. Jude's Hospital. John Robert Powers provided a
Monarch Make-Up Studio, Princess Hair Do Salon, and an
Etiquette station where teams of skilled John Robert Powers'
coaches transformed girls into princesses throughout the
course of the evening. Ten lucky girls chosen from a "Princess
for a Day" radio contest also sponsored by John Robert
Powers were given the opportunity to walk the pink carpet
and pose for the press.
On
behalf of John Robert Powers, Ron Patterson presented
a generous check to show support in continuing the
research work St. Jude's offers for children.
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is internationally
recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and
saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases.
Founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas and based
in Memphis, Tennessee, St. Jude freely shares its discoveries
with scientific and media communities around the world.

an effort to reach out to inner city youth, John Robert
Powers is proud to partner with LA's BEST After School
Enrichment Program to provide the "Acting 4 Life" Program
to elementary school students with the greatest needs
and fewest resources throughout the City of Los Angeles.
The 8-session, bi-weekly program will take place on a monthly
basis for the purpose of educating and graduating participants
in each calendar month.
With
the "Acting 4 Life" Program, John Robert
Powers implements exciting and educational exercises that
will not only provide an orientation to the performing

important communication skills. Students will be taught
the same life skills lessons offered
to aspiring models and actors by trained John Robert Powers
professionals in their nationally recognized schools.
Through
scenario based acting classes, the program will offer

the eight week session
with "Industry
Night", where participants of each program are showcased
before talent industry executives, allowing each participant

What
do these people have in common? Michael Jordan, Tony Hawk,
Mary Lou Retton? They all had a dream and they worked hard
to acheive it, just like I am. Acting is my dream. I have ben
given the opportunity to pursue this dream from John Robert
Powers and I am putting all of my effort into acheiving it
in as many ways as possible.
I have been practicing and using techniques taught to me at John Robert Powers
not only in auditions but in normal everyday situations as well. I have stopped
placing my hands in my pockets, started keeping eye contact to who ever is
speaking to me, and am more prepared with my answers when I reply. At John
Robert Powers, I am taking a dance class, a commercial skills class and attending
as many auditions as possible.
My attendance has been perfect except for this month where I missed one commercial
skills class and one dance class. All 3 months before these two incidents I
have had perfect attendance. I do not just practice what I learn at JRP, but
I take my newly acquired learning and put it to use outside of JRP. This has
proven beneficial
to me. Because of this, I have recently gotten a call from Julie Wolff of The
Morgan Agency congratulating me on an audition tape I sent in. The Morgan Agency
very much liked my performance and would like to sign me.
In the future I would like to pursue this more with a possible trip to L.A.
in the late summer. I have not just planted my roots in JRP Acting School,
but outside of them as well. I am looking into nerolling int a fall acting
class at Notre Dame De Namur University. Also, I would like to further my singing
abilities, so I am searching for a voice instructor as well. In addition, to
hone in on things I can do to gain experience in theater, I have been looking
into a theatrical drama group named "Broadway by the Bay". I hope
that this will give me the edge I need in tackling all my inhibitions in performing
in front of new people. I hope that I set an example for all the students in
John Robert Powers in reaching for and acheiving my goal.

Mr. Ron Patterson, President
John Robert Powers
Dear Ron,
I wish to personally thank you for a marvelous experience via the iPOP (International Presentation of Performers) event held in Los Angeles, January 2008. My 12 year old daughter, Lilly Abraham has signed with David Schember and Jackie Lewis at Diverse Talent Group and has a resourceful manager, April Mills of Mills Management in Los Angeles. We will be relocating to Sherman Oaks, CA from Scottsdale, AZ within the next two weeks. All of this has taken place thanks to your iPOP event and the unyielding support from Claude Hart at JRP Southwest. It was an absolute pleasure meeting Suzanne Von Schaack, as well and she kindly selected Lilly to participate in the Grease finale showcase.
In fact, I was so impressed by our overall experience that I would embrace the opportunity to promote it professionally on your behalf within the John Robert Powers organization. Your philanthropic support of Yiyi McManus illustrates yet another impressive aspect of the John Robert Powers franchise and iPOP philosophy to assist young performers to succeed in a challenging industry.
We participated in a similar event with IMTA a few years ago, but the experience was not the same caliber as iPOP.
It would be an honor and pleasure to meet with you in person if possible. I will be flying to Los Angeles next week to finalize our living arrangements, school enrollment for Lilly and employment for myself. Thanking you in advance.
Warm regards,
Holly Fitch
Dear Ron,
I would like to thank you for giving my family the opportunity to participate in iPOP Los Angeles. We both had a great time and met so many wonderful people.
My husband, JR and I want thank you, first, for allowing us to perform in the Showcase. That was a great and fun experience for the both of us. We also want to thank you for the positive message you give the kids about success. We try to instill to our daughter that it is important to always do your best no matter what you do and to never give up. Hearing it for you validates the importance of hard work and perseverance. Jacquelynne has retold the story of the video clip showing the football player carrying his teammate on his back many many times already. That was a great message.
Secondly, and most importantly, I want to thank you for giving our daughter, Jacquelynne the opportunity to share her talent of dance with so many people. She loved every minute of iPOP! She loved meeting new friends from all over the country and even saw a few people that knew her from other dance events. She had a great time learning new dances and talking to others about their dance experiences. She was also able to meet several agents during the networking and callback sessions. I only hope that one will see the potential in her and take interest. Jacquelynne was so happy when Joseph announced her name as first place in the iDance category. She almost forgot about the awards because she was concentrating on the showcase performance. She had so much fun! She said that she liked the first showcase because she was able to perform with people closer to her age, and she was able to get to know them. She loved the second showcase because she said it made her feel like a star. When we received the call to ask her to be a part of the second showcase, I thought she would be hesitant, since she did not practice with them at all. But she didn?t. She said yes right away, even though she didn?t know what she was going to do. Jacquelynne said she had fun working with the director learning what her part would be, and she especially liked having her hair and makeup done by professionals.
Thank you again for this great experience. I wish you well and hope to see you again.
Sincerely,
Patricia Garcia
